Who We Are
Prodigious Academy is a year-round nonprofit learning institution designed to help youth become skilled thinkers, disciplined learners, and self-directed leaders — right now.
"To cultivate scholars through advanced learning, character development, critical thinking, and experiential education so they can define success on their own terms and lead meaningful lives."
Our Mission · Prodigious Academy
Prodigious Academy was founded on a simple but radical belief: that youth of color are not behind — they are underserved. The problem has never been the students. The problem has been the systems built around them.
We are designing something different. A year-round learning institution that functions as a learning environment, a research hub, and an experiential community for scholars, educators, families, and partners.
"Schooling should prepare students to move through the world with competence, confidence, and agency."
That means academic growth matters — but it is not enough by itself. Students also need critical thinking, self-awareness, civic understanding, communication skills, emotional regulation, persistence, and real chances to lead.
Prodigious Academy is where all of that happens together.
Academic achievement sits beside social, emotional, civic, and workforce readiness. We don't separate them.
Scholars help shape questions, define success, interpret data, and make meaningful decisions every day.
An educator is a mentor with theoretical and practical solutions. We build the systems that support them.
Productive struggle is essential. Reflection matters. Resilience is taught, practiced, and modeled.
The wolf is not chosen for its ferocity. It's chosen for what a wolf actually represents: intelligence, loyalty, discipline, and the power of moving together with purpose.
Wolves don't just survive — they adapt, they lead, they protect, and they build. That's exactly what we're developing in every scholar who walks through these doors.
Platinum — rare, resilient, and earned. Not given.
Every program, every lesson, every interaction at Prodigious Academy is built around four non-negotiable values.
Character is the foundation of everything. We develop scholars who act with integrity, treat others with dignity, and hold themselves to a standard that doesn't require an audience.
Leadership isn't a title — it's a practice. We develop scholars who lead from any seat, speak up when it matters, and understand that real leadership is about lifting others.
Achievement is not about grades alone — it's about the habit of pursuing mastery in everything you do. We celebrate effort, persistence, and the courage to revise and try again.
Every scholar who walks through our doors needs to know — before anything else — that they are worthy of excellence. Worth is the belief that drives everything.
Character. Leadership. Achievement. Worth. — That's the C.L.A.W. Every Platinum Wolf carries it.
We are not building a program. We are building an ecosystem — a cradle-to-career pipeline that develops scholars, trains educators, supports families, and produces practical knowledge about what excellence can look like.

Scholars equipped to build their futures
We hold ourselves and our scholars to a standard of mastery, not minimum. Good enough is not the culture here.
Consistency is how potential becomes performance. We build habits, not events.
Questions are the beginning of all real learning. We protect the instinct to wonder and reward the courage to ask.
No scholar grows alone. We build learning communities where everyone is accountable to each other's growth.
Mikal Driver
Founder & President
Mikal Driver is an educator, strategist, and community builder who has dedicated his career to expanding opportunity for youth. He founded Prodigious Academy on the belief that the problem has never been the students — it has been the systems around them.
His work spans advanced learning design, debate education, community partnership, and the development of educators who can sustain a culture of excellence.
I started this work because I kept seeing what was possible in young people that the systems around them couldn't see. Brilliant kids. Creative thinkers. Natural leaders. And institutions that kept asking them to shrink.
I wanted to build a place that starts with a different question. Not "how do we fix these students" — but "what does this young person need to own their future?" That question changes everything.
"Scholars deserve more than survival-based schooling. They deserve rigorous, affirming, future-facing environments where they are trusted to lead."
Prodigious Academy is the institution I wished existed. A place built on the C.L.A.W. — Character, Leadership, Achievement, and Worth. A place where Platinum Wolves are developed, not just enrolled.
We are just getting started.
